We’ve made it even easier for you to purchase items on our “Wish List” and have created a list on Amazon. We have found that since we don’t get any confirmations from Amazon your donations are not being acknowledged – there is an option to include a gift card so be sure to do this so we can say THANK YOU!!!

  • Bastrop County Stray Animal Fee $35 Per Animal $75 Per Litter

Please take precaution when coming across a stray animal.  Do Not pick up a stray animal due to the behavior and health being unknown.  Do not feed a stray as it may not return home.  Report stray dogs to the Bastrop County Sheriffs Office Communications Division to dispatch Animal Control at 512-303-7000.

First and most important - If you have any concerns due to behavior or health, be sure to contact Animal Control to handle the situation.

Here are some tips to help the animal in need and hopefully get them back home.

    1. If the animal is in your possession, get the animal checked for a microchip.  You can bring the animal to a vet, pet store or to the shelter to scan for a microchip.

    2. Post pictures, descriptions and location found on Nextdoor.com, Facebook Lost and Found Pet Group and on Petco Love Lost.

    3. Post brightly colored flyers in your neighborhood.  Recent data suggests that many lost pets are found within just a few blocks of their home, where their families are missing them and anxiously awaiting that call to let hem know their beloved furry family member has been found.

    4. Bring a flyer to the shelter and post it on our Lost and Found board.  Always include a good photo, description, where the animal was found and good contact information.

    Other Ways To Help

Our Shelter has limited space.  Help us by being responsible pet owners.

    • Spay and Neuter your personal pets.  The thousands of puppies received annually are mainly accidental and can be prevented with your help.  We have low cost options for any budget.
    • Always keep your pet contained, it is the law.  It is illegal for your pet to run at large and owners can and will be held liable and ticketed.
    • Foster and Volunteer at our shelter!
    • Donate!

  • The Animal Shelter is open for adoptions Wednesday through Sunday and closed Monday and Tuesday. The process for adoption is fairly simple. The first step is to look at the animals available and choose one or more that you are interested in. We will review the computer and file records for information about the animal(s). Once an animal has been selected for adoption potential adopters are asked to fill out an application form and provide identification. Counseling specific to that specific animal/living arrangement in the new home will be provided to the best of our ability. The animals at the shelter have limited known physical and behavioral history. Many animals are brought in as strays without known breed or exact age. Estimates are provided but health, behavior and temperament cannot be guaranteed.

About Bastrop County Animal Services
PuppyBastrop County Animal Services was established in 1998. We have grown since then and continue to do so as Bastrop County grows. Currently, we have 3 separate buildings containing a total of 90 large indoor/outdoor kennels and 8 play yards. We have 2 cat housing areas including our communal cattery. Bastrop Animal Services encompasses both Animal Control and the Bastrop County Animal Shelter.  We offer animal control services 7 days a week from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm as well as limited emergency after hour and holiday animal control response. The animal shelter is open to adoptions and owned animal surrenders during normal business hours. Owned animal surrenders are accepted by appointment- with proof of residency and identification. We allow people looking for lost or missing pets 7 days a week when staff is present and working (typically 8am-4pm except for County recognized holidays).

The Bastrop County Animal Shelter is a Public Service organization and “Open Intake Facility”- meaning that all dogs and cats within the County as well as those that are picked up by the City Animal Control Officers for Bastrop, Elgin and Smithville are housed here. We do our best to find adoptive homes and work with rescues to save as many animals as possible. Our “Open Intake” status prevents us from being “No Kill” as a policy, but we strive to remain “Low Kill” and typically have near “No Kill” save rates.
