Sheriff's Department Online Reporting

200 Jackson Street | Bastrop, Texas 78602 | (512) 549-5100

If you have an emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately!

Welcome to the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office Online Offense Reporting page.  The purpose of this is to allow Bastrop County citizens to conveniently file offense reports from home, work, or anywhere with internet access.  This should NEVER be used to report an emergency, a crime in progress, or any type of injury.  Once we receive the reporting form, a Deputy or Investigator will review the incident, obtain a case number, and email it to you. Remember, these are non-emergency cases, so they will be handled on a lower priority basis.

Before continuing, you should be aware that it is a crime to make a false police report or to provide false information.

You may only use this form if:

  • You have access to a valid, functioning e-mail account
  • You are the actual victim of the offense (NOT a witness, relative, friend, etc.)
  • There were no injuries
  • The crime occurred in the unincorporated areas of Bastrop County (outside the city limits of Elgin, Bastrop, Smithville)
  • There is no evidence at the scene, such as burglary tools or fingerprints, which needs to be collected by deputies
  • The total amount of loss is LESS than $2,500.00

You may NOT use this form to report a stolen vehicle!

You may only use this form for the following offenses:

  • Credit/Debit Card Abuse - If your credit or debit card was used without your knowledge or consent.  You will need to include your card number, bank information, date and time the card was USED (not when the transaction cleared), the location where your card was used (must be in Bastrop County), and any fraud paperwork filed with your bank.
  • Criminal Mischief (Vandalism) - If someone intentionally damages your property and the damage is less than $2,500.  You will need to give a time frame for when the offense occurred, a description of the damaged property, and an itemized list of the costs to repair the damage.  You will also need to send photographs of the damage.
  • Forgery - If someone passes a check which you did not authorize or sign.  You will need to include your bank information, the location the check was passed (must be in Bastrop County), and the date and time the check was passed.  Please include a copy of the check and a copy of a voided check.
  • Harassment - If someone is repeatedly contacting you after you have warned them not to, and you have used due diligence to block them.  If you message them back with anything other than a message telling them to stop contacting you, this is NOT harassment; this is a mutual conversation.  You will need to save all of the messages for the investigator.
  • Identity Theft - If someone is using your name and address, social security number, driver's license number, or other identification number without your consent, and with the intent to harm or defraud someone.  You will need to provide all of the information available to you regarding how you learned of this and exactly how your information is being used.  Provide copies of all documentation.  Most of the time, it is sufficient to make a report to IDTheft.Gov.
  • Lost Property - Lost wallet, driver's license, etc..  Property must have been lost in the unincorporated area of Bastrop County (outside the city limits of Elgin, Bastrop, Smithville).  Please describe all lost property and the value.  If you have photographs, please email them as well.
  • Theft - Someone takes your property without your consent or implied consent.  Use this if you are the victim of a telephone scam.  Please include a complete description of the stolen property, where it was located when it was stolen, home much the property was worth, photographs of the property if you have any, and any other information which can be used to locate it.
  • Theft from a Vehicle - If someone broke into your car and stole property.  Please include a complete description of the property, property value, photographs of the property if you have any, and any other information which can be used to locate it.  Also Include a complete vehicle description, including VIN, License plate, make, model, registered owner, point of entry, and any damage to the vehicle.  Please send photographs of the vehicle and any damage.
  • Threats - If someone is threatening you with bodily injury.  If the threat is imminent, CALL 9-1-1!  If the threats are electronic, send copies of the threats.  Do not delete any of the messages.  Be as descriptive as possible when describing the incident.  Send photos and/or screenshots if possible.

If you have documents or images to send, please email OnlineReporting@co.bastrop.tx.us.  When sending images, please limit the number to 1 or 2 images at a time.  Emailing larger items like photos and videos may cause issues with our email server.  *In EVERY email, include the victim's name and date of birth so we can ensure that the emails are attached to the correct case.

If you meet the above requirements, please continue & complete the Online Report form.
