Wireless Radio System

Bastrop County's Wireless Communications System is a Motorola Type II 800 MHz Radio System which has been in service since 2000.  In cooperation with the City of Austin and the COPS 2007 Grant, Bastrop County will be joining the Great Austin/Travis County Regional Radio System.  This system upgrade has already brought more than 200 new subscriber radios to Bastrop County's Public Safety Professionals. The technology will allow Police, Fire, and EMS to talk person to person from their handheld radio from each of the following counties: Caldwell, Bastrop, Lee, Travis, Hays, and Williamson Counties.

Through the PSIC Grant, Bastrop County is building a new 460' radio tower just east of Elgin.  This $800,000 structure will allow Bastrop County to move away from a leased radio tower and onto owned structure through a cooperative lease agreement with the City of Elgin.  We look for tower to be complete and operating sometime in mid February.
