The Bastrop County 2016 Transportation Plan

was adopted at the December 27th, 2016 Commissioners Court.

Welcome to the project web page for the Bastrop County Transportation Plan. Adopted by the Bastrop County Commissioners Court on December 27, 2016, the plan serves as a road map for creating a county transportation system that safely and efficiently serves the mobility needs of area residents and allows the county to remain economically competitive now and in the future. The key elements of the plan are:
  • Introduction
  • Goals and Objectives Development
  • Existing Conditions
  • Needs Assessment
  • Public Participation
  • Travel and the Economy
  • Project Evaluation and Selection
  • 2016 Thoroughfare Plan
  • Prioritized Program of Projects
  • Financial Analysis
  • Other Recommended Strategies and Policy Initiatives

How will the plan help improve the transportation system in Bastrop County?

The plan allows county leaders and staff to:
  • Identify critical transportation infrastructure and operational deficiencies for all modes of travel, including auto, freight, public transportation, bicycles and pedestrians.
  • Better maintain the existing county transportation system.
  • Identify the need for new or expanded facilities to meet the needs of the growing county economy.
  • Develop a transportation system that supports county goals and objectives to provide safe and efficient travel options to all travelers.
  • Select the most appropriate solutions to efficiently move people and goods to their intended destinations in the most fiscally responsible manner.

What community engagement took place as part of the development of this plan?

A series of three public workshops were held in the fall of 2015 in Bastrop County to give the public an opportunity to provide their input on a vision and goals for the county’s transportation system and to help the project team identify transportation system needs in the county. Results and backup materials from the fall public workshops are provided below.

A second round of public meetings was held in spring 2016 to allow the public to weigh in on strategies to address the county’s transportation system challenges.

What happens next?

The plan was adopted by the Bastrop County Commissioners Court on December 27, 2016.  The Transportation Policy Board of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) approved the Plan on February 13, 2017 for incorporation into the CAMPO Regional Transportation Plan. This will represent one of the main sources of funding for the identified road projects.

The plan will also form a key consideration in any emerging land use and strategic planning documents proposed by the County or its incorporated cities, ensuring that development occurs in a sustainable way that minimizes traffic congestion.
